Abandoned House Landrum SC 55

Here is a photo taken some time ago of an abandoned house in what I believe is actually New Prospect SC rather than Landrum SC. It is located on West Melvin Hill Rd.
If I remember correctly it was rather run down but not as bad as alot I've seen. It was rather deserted. By that I mean it was by itself not too close to any other houses.
There are alot of abandoned houses in SC. There are some in Rutherford County but not very many in Henderson county.

Abandoned House Fuquay Varina NC

Here is the link to the house and story. It is http://www.graveaddiction.com/fvabhouse.html. I cannot make it load up when I try to access it. I've included the photo and story here on my blog. There are a number of photos at grave addiction.
This is an interesting looking old house. I like finding my own abandoned houses but I also like finding ones other people have found in areas where I can't go most of the time.

Shannon Zroback sent me the following information about this old abandoned house:

I am not exactly sure what town this house is in but I do know that is somewhere near the town of Fuquay-Varina . A friend and I found it one day when we were out looking for old cemeteries and decided to check it out. We have been back many times since. The house is falling apart (as you can tell from pics) but the yard is very well maintained. The house is full of furniture (there are even towels hanging on the wall in the bathroom) It look like it may have been a plantation home, I am sure that it was a very beautiful home at one time. The last time we were there we talked to a neighbor and he said that no one has lived in the home the whole time that he and his wife have lived next door (over 30 years) and that the owners will NOT go in the home, they only come to cut the grass and that is all. I personally find it strange that they left everything there and locked up the house (doors are locked with pad locks or have furniture pushed against them) What I think happened was that either something horrible happened there and the family no longer wanted to live there and didn't want anything to remind them of what happened so they just up and left and didn't take anything with them. OR that the house is haunted and the haunting got to be so bad that the family fled with out taking their belongings and they will no go back in the house even long enough to get their things. Everything in the house looks to be from the 60's or 70's. I personally think that the home is haunted, I get a very eerie felling every time we are there and have felt like I am being watched. Who know why the home is abandoned or why the family refuses to go back there but for some reason I feel drawn to this house.

South Carolina Lunatic Asylum

These are some interesting photos. Being an old lunatic asylum it's probably haunted but who knows maybe not.

The photos and essay are courtesy of grave addiction. I tried linking directly to the site but couldn't. It kept giving me an error message and I know how annoying that can be for someone to open the window only for nothing to be there so I put it right here on my blog. The excerpt is to the site owner.

Mitch Oates sent me the following information about this old, abandoned mental hospital:
The South Carolina Lunatic Asylum was built in the late 1850's, and its design was cutting-edge for its time. The photographs are of the Babcock Building, the second oldest building, but the most impressive on the campus. The 140 acre campus itself is a nearly deserted city within the middle of Columbia, South Carolina, but the grounds are patrolled by state police. There are old wooden houses used by the doctors, an old church (Ironically named Chapel of Hope), a canteen, a library, and an auditorium...all abandoned. The state is eager to sell the property to developers hungry for real estate within the city, but historic preservation groups are attempting to block development. The grounds may also hold some archeological artifacts. During the Civil War, the hill behind the Babcock Building was used as a prisoner of war camp for Union soldiers. There is also a story of a serial killer on the grounds of the Asylum during the 1800's, who turned out to be a painter on the groundkeeping staff. I cannot vouch for the validity of that story.

There are several more photos which can be accessed at grave addiction.

Abandoned Building-Mill Spring NC 53

This is an abandoned building on Landrum Road in Mill Spring NC which is very close to Landrum SC. It is on the corner of Highway 9.

Bell Mtn Abandoned House-Tuxedo NC 50

This is another abandoned house on Bell Mountain that I found while exploring the area and exploring Bell Mountain to see if it really is haunted. I can't say whether it is or not although people have said they've sighted ghosts here. I couldn't say. I went back at night and the first time I found it extremely creepy especially at the site of one of the houses but nothing particulry out of the ordinary. The honest truth is most places are not haunted, it's just myth or urban legend perperated by bored elderly folks who either want to scare the kids, have some fun at the expense of outsiders or just have nothing better to talk about and this livens up their lives and gives people something to talk about.

Either way, I can't say whether it is or not but if anyone has had an experience with this area or would like to share some the stories passed down to them by their grandparents, etc. I'd like to hear it.

Bell Mtn House-Tuxedo NC

This is an old abandoned house I found while exploring the supposedly haunted Bell Mountain in Tuxedo NC located in Henderson county nearest the SC line. In fact if you travel Bell Mtn Rd all the way out which is a very far distance you will run right into The Greenville SC Watershed area which is off limits to anyone but employees or authorized personel. It's an otherwise nice area minus a few old beat down houses in need of repairs. It's out in the country away from the towns but still close enough to not be too big of an inconvenience for those who like the countryside.
There really isn't anyone up there to speak of except for the people that live there and I've walked down the road and even into the Greenville Watershed area after 5 PM. I didn't see anyone. Actually I had a sudden need for a potty break and couldn't wait and the Greenville Watershed appeared to be the best choice with the most privacy so I took it.
There are several old abandoned houses out here and this is one of them.

Abandoned House-Travelers Rest SC

This is an old, empty, very dilapidated house that sits very close to Hwy 25 on N. Old Buncombe Rd in Travelers Rest SC. It's apparent by the amount of abandoned houses in this one area that people really don't care about their or their loved ones houses especially after they've been shipped off to nursing homes and passed away.
It's this particular element that I find the most interesting. There is a history to every one of these houses. At one time someone lived here and it may have been a nice house but over time it fell into disrepair which is the case for many of the houses I find. There may have been children who lived here and who grew up here but no one will ever know. I doubt the people who live in these areas have any idea about the people that once lived there. That's a shame.
It's a shame that houses fall into such disrepair and no one cares least of all the children of the people who once lived there and had vibrant, active lives. That of course is a very positive outlook on the houses I find.
Since I don't know the story behind any of them, there could have been murderers living there, wife beaters, who knows, it's only speculation on my part but if the walls of houses I find could talk they would tell me a story, each story unique in it's own way filled with different people from different eras.
This house is very rundown with the front door standing wide open suggesting that homeless have stayed there.

187 Gosnell Rd-Travelers Rest SC

This is an empty, abandoned mobile home I saw while driving(joyriding) in Travelers Rest SC. I especially like the Tigerville area and would often drive through there looking for anything empty or anything interesting I could take pictures of. It's a beautiful area that hasn't been overdeveloped yet like many other surrounding areas. I don't visit so much anymore because of the saving money issue. But I've accumulated hundreds of photographs since the time of trying to save gas thus money especially since I've started driving a bigger automobile once again. My small car afforded me more opportunities to drive while still not spending an arm and a leg on fuel but for now it has to be a bigger car not that I don't really like my bigger car better for comfortability especially when I drive further distances.
I just don't take so many pictures when I go to Virginia and Kentucky and Georgia, not sure why I just don't unless it's of waterfalls, lakes, rivers, etc. then I do.

This mobile home was abandoned and empty the last time I drove by it which has been several months.

Abandoned Gas Station-Marietta SC

I'm sure the people that live in this area probably pass by this old gas station every day or quite often and by now to them it is just an eyesore they wish someone would tear down.
It's been awhile since I've been in this area, probably several months now since I've been trying to save money by saving gas and staying home more and when I've been out I've chosen to explore other places. Marietta is a very nice area in SC and I love to explore it. I take turns however exploring different places.
When I was at this old gas station I could see where a homeless person had managed to crawl under one of the garage doors to get inside. The side door now stands wide open. I didn't dare go inside being alone. I just stood outside and snapped some pictures.

849 E Preston/McDaniel Rd-Pickens SC

This house is actually located on the corner of E Preston/McDaniel Road and Hwy 288. One photo is the front view and the other is the back of the house. It is clearly abandoned and empty however someone does come to the place on occasion as I saw farming equipment. The doors were wide open with a lawnmower in the back room of the house. The house is very rundown as can be imagined.
*
Interest level: A 9 on a scale of 1-20. Interesting place and there are many others in the Pickens county area. It's a beautiful area.

204 S Blythe Shoals Dr-Cleveland SC

You can barely see the old abandoned house back behind all the trees and bushes but it is there. There are several abandoned properties on this one road alone. I guess that is a sign of the times or a lot of people died in this one area. There is said to be a ghost in this area and I wonder if that might have something to do with all the empty houses on the street.
+++++++++++++++++++++
Interest level: Scale 1-20, a 5. Not too interesting but the location is. It is also home to the blythe shoals dam where the ghost has allegedly been seen.

210 S Blythe Shoals Dr-Cleveland South Carolina

This is an empty/abandoned house at 210 s blythe shoals dr in Cleveland South Carolina.
++++++++++++++++++
Interest level: Scale 1-20, a 5.5. It isn't particularly interesting but the area itself is. In fact there is supposed to be a ghost at blythe shoals dam. That is how I found this place and several others like it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As always be safe.

Abandoned Business-Salem SC

Abandoned Business-Cherokee Path Rd-Salem SC

This is an old abandoned business I found while out exploring. It looks to be an old restaurant. Salem is pretty much a dead zone as far as business goes. There is a fair number of residential homes with people living in them but as with all places it has it's fair share of abandoned and empty homes and business.

Interest level: Scale 1-20, a 5.5. There isn't too much to see in Salem. You can park right in front of the building but I don't suggest trying to find a way in. It's in an obvious location and it's trespassing if you do go in.
As always be safe.

Dacusville Horse Farm-Adamsville SC

This appears to be an abandoned horse farm/stables. Right in front is this big horse. There is still a pasture with horses in it but this building is blocked off. It looks more like a mechanic shop of some sort but with the horse in front I assume it was a business for horses.
The old abandoned house with the old car that posted about in my last post is right next door to 2019 dacusville rd. Not too close but next door. It is interesting. Haunted? No.
Interest level: 1-20 scale, a 9. You can park on the road.

2019 Dacusville Rd-Dacusville SC

This place is not only empty and abandoned but for sale too. It appears that it has been that way for awhile.
It doesn't particularly peak my interest and it isn't really creepy. It's just abandoned and empty.
Interest level: On a scale of 1-20 it is a 6. There is only one small place to park right in front of the house. There is a cable blocking the driveway.

367 Hester Store Rd Barns-Easley SC

These are the old barns/sheds located at the house on 367 hester store rd. As I stated in the previous posts this place is quite creepy and I heard a woman's voice coming from the house even though no one is there. Also the sounds of a rooster/chickens coming the barns when clearly there are no chickens at this place and it has probably been quite some time since there has been.
As I stated previously it could have been my imagination however I don't think so or neighbors chickens and sounds coming from a nearby golf course. But they distinctly sounded like they were coming from the house and barns. I have not been back but plan to sometime in the near future possibly with someone to get a second opinion of this place.
Interest level: 14.5 on a scale of 1-20. This includes both the barns and the house. There is ample place to park in front of the house to the side.

367 Hester Store Rd-Easley SC

This house is abandoned and empty. It is almost across the street from the golf course which the name escapes me right now.
I can't say this place is haunted but when I was there I heard sounds that didn't seem to be coming from across the street at the golf course. I heard a woman's voice to begin with that sounded like it was coming from the house so I turned to look. I thought perhaps people were living there and I just didn't realize it but on further inspection I realized it is empty and if I remember correctly some of the windows were boarded up.
After walking around a bit and taking more pictures I heard chickens/rooster that sounded like it was coming from the old sheds on the premises. Needless to say after a short time I decided to leave without exploring further. These sounds could have just been from the golf course and down the road although I didn't see any nearby houses that looked to contain chickens or a rooster but I could be wrong.
Interest level: 14.5 on a scale of 1-20. It is creepy definitely, not as much as some I've been too but it without a doubt very interesting. And if the house doesn't offer enough interest, well, there's a 27 hole golf course across the street. You don't have to play all 27, you can play 9 or 18 as well. This of course is if you go during the day. There is ample place to park right in front of the house to the side.

Wynn Rd House-Greenville SC

I found this old house some time back but at the time I didn't have my camera so I waited to post about it until now when I have a photo of it.
It appears to be very old, in fact other houses on this street are very rundown. I did not try to go inside as I do a few. The front door is broken down so someone has been here. Maybe a homeless person or it could be drug addicts wanting a place to hang out and get high. The location makes it difficult for anyone to see what is going on from the street. It is isolated with no one else nearby. Down the road there is another street with only one house on it. It looks to be a new construction.

There are trenches all over the place in front of this house and if I'm not mistaken there is an old shed or outhouse one. I can't be sure. Nevertheless, it is quite old and abandoned and has probably been that way for some time.
As far as I know it is not haunted. It is interesting though. It is located not too far off hwy 25 in Travelers Rest/Greenville.

Interest level: 1-20 scale, I rate it an 8.5. Not too many places rank higher than a 10. There are a few but not too many. So this is a fairly good rating. You can park anywhere on the street. I parked just down the road from the house on the side of the road under some trees.
I'm not sure I would explore this place at night. It is off the road a ways although if you look you can see it from Old Hunts Bridge Rd. It is very isolated though with no neighbors nearby and off the road. It probably very dark at night. If you do explore at night be cautious and safe.

Melton Pond Rd Barn-Hendersonville NC

Melton Pond Rd Barn-Hendersonville NC

I've explored the barn too but nothing really strange occured for me there, most of the weirdness occured at what's left of the carport. I posted about the carport in the previous post.

My companion stated he noticed strange occurences at the barn and believes it is the most haunted of the two places. Personally I think the whole place is haunted. If it isn't, it certainly seems that way and gives the impression that it is.

As stated before, it is a beautiful area and definitely worth exploring. However someone does use the barn to store bails of hay and if exploring inside the barn there is a large dropoff to a lower level so be careful and cautious.

Interest level: 1-20 scale, a 12 for both. Easy access to parking, there is plenty of space to park. No one has ever bothered me when I've been there. There are no neighbors on this street.
